You are not a dork! In fact, I think it's interesting that you would choose to keep the story in the Kripke vein. I respect that.
As I've become more and more obsessed with this fandom, I find that if a story gets too far out of whack with what I perceive as plausible for the characters, I just don't enjoy it as much. Some fandoms lend themselves really well to AU, but I'm not sure this one does, at least not just yet. There are too many loose ends and unanswered questions that need to be addressed before I can get my head around going somewhere altogether new.
All of that rambling is my inept way of saying, "Yay! I like it! More please?"
